A girl called Sanzs

in

Very seldom do i write about my friends, but now that i have got a go ahead from her, i surely will. This friend of mine lives life her way (well literally), when she didn like what she was doing one fine day she decided she would resign and come back home :). Wow, sometimes we wish we could do that isn it. A big prankster that she is, the first time i met her she managed to fool me by getting her friend to wear the same dress as her, and i kept wondering if they were sisters ( they are surely not). Hitting the disc even though when she is not well, one can only learn from her how she does that seriously :P. Well i still remember, standing at mc donalds and not having bought anything in the end :)).

We are a bunch of 3 enthusiastic fun lovers who just love to comment on Sanzs snaps and have loads of fun doing it, most of the time it has been on facebook. Well we do leave sanzs in the end to catch up on her breath, till we start with our comments again :))). Well Sanzs as you know it has all been in the spirit of just having loads of fun, nothing else.

Well, i have seen her resigning and yet having loads of fun in delhi. Be it the delhi haat, or celebrating her birthday inside a car, or even celebrating her friends birthday... she has been the centre of attraction everywhere.

Little did we know that she will move to singapore for work. Well she has been cribbing quite a lot before moving there. But let me tell you, i guess she is one girl having loads of fun. Which country have you left girl to visit haan ;). Every day you seem to be busy working yaar :(, well its a good thing that you are working hard towards your goal, but you should surely take some time out for friends too. We have loved all your snaps (nats and ginni will surely agree) i dont remember the names of locations (coz you keep visiting so many of them :P)

Well, i will still say that you should now get going and start learning your salsa moves coz your salsa dress is already stunning, and did i forget to mention the heels :P. As far as the partner is concerned, well i have already learnt two levels of cuban salsa ;)...so shall we dance?? :)

Well Sanya Seth (she allowed me to do it :P), i think its high time you realize how much this bunch (read Nats, Ginni and Ani) have cared for you.

Now sanzs its you , who is gonna send the link to ginni and nats and make sure that i have some comments here :)

Convocation Day

in

Well as promised, here is the last post for the mba-in-making series. No before the actual d-day, here at NMIMS one has to actually rehearse so that everything goes smooth, and yea it went of well. On the day of the rehearsal, it was time to get back to formal wear, blazer, lapel pin, tie and then....stand under the scorching sun in a humid weather..as one of my batchmate said...one has to sweat a lot to get the degree..didn know this way :)

After the rehearsal was time for clicking group snaps..was a nice change to see some new faces..or rather one month of moms love made my friends look the way they did :D.Throwing of caps while clicking some cool snaps, ya..and ensuring they land on the irritaing teachers-priceless :)

Well after getting done with this was time for one last party at famous NMIMS quadrangle. The DJ was the best so far on campus, we also had the RING CEREMONY :P during the party....
After the party it was time to take a walk at the beach with friends.

On the d-day
Wake up...get ready...off to college...register for convocation..take the cloak and hat that doesn fit..wear both...try to smile a little..get your individual snap clicked with the degree :P...and then try and ensure that your parents find the right seat in the auditorium for the event.

Time for some more snaps with friends...march in with the SECOND batallion specially called for the event..man they all look so smart in their uniforms..and we were still sweating in the heat..trying to balance hats on our heads..enter the audi and chill... :)

Then time for some borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg speech..sleep a little..check out the chelsea Man-U match update on friends Phone...Crack few jokes..go to the stage..take the degree...immediately check if the name is correct..yes it is..check if the spelling is correct..yes it is....thank the person who penned down the names on degree...then thank everyone else :P..

Wait for the loooong event to end....and then throw caps in the air one last time..twice..it was fun :D

thats all folks .....Finally MBA done

Placements

in

B-School placements...Well you people must be wondering what happened after summers right...well let me tell you second year of b-school grind revolves a lot around placements for most of the students...yea coz we do have some entrepreneurs too in the batch...I wish them all the luck.

Lets get down to the business of analysing what exactly goes on behind these young leaders ( i hope so) of tomorrow. One can actually see all the emotions from anger, anguish, pain, sorrow to laughter, joy and camaradrie all from the same person. I mean its really hard to accuse some one if he is being selfish, right isn't it :)..well i guess i'll leave that to you.

Compromises..well i dont think thats too harsh a word..i mean every student ends up doing it isnt it...ok most of it do it...and at the end of it every one pretends that the company that they got through was actually their dream company..i dont know whether its out of choice or fate...anyways i wish all of them success...in their DREAM COMPANIES..

Well just one more post coming up..which would be for the graduation day...then would be the end of the .."mbainmaking series"... adios

Twenty 20

in

Well one of the good thing about being at NMIMS was this moment. What better to watch India-Pakistan twenty 20 match on projector screen with friends cheering team india. And well the match lived up to its expectation of having all ingredients of a typical roller coaster ride with match swinging from one team to another.

What more it reached a tie-breaker that India won eventually. One of the first on its kinds for Twenty 20 records. And I am glad India won that one.

Exams on head, and as usual loads of assignments to submit at the last moment. What more teachers have gone crazy here trying to take classes in between exam time. Well my batchmates have gone a step furthur, they have actuallly decided to go and meet parents in between their exams.Cool isnt it.

Dravid has stepped down from India's captaincy which i think is a good thing both for Indian cricket team and Dravid too. I just wish Sourav takes over again and leads India to more victories down under. He has been a great inspiration for his teammates.

I just wish for a nice farewell for two of the all time greats Sachin and Sourav.

Summer training

in

Well got selected in Bharti-axalife for summer training. Now enjoying the 2 months before the rigor of final year of MBA starts again.Nothing new for me since i have already worked before, but it must be a nice learning experience for freshers to be at office.

We had a nice HR-fun filled friday celebration once..it was nice to play some musical chair in office corridor.Have submitted my choices for major and minor specialization just now.I hope i have made the right decision.Doesn't matter anyways since i am just a tool in the hands of lord,he will do the best for me :P.Nice way to disown your own decisions huh :)

Phew:Placements

in

Well a long pending post i must say.Placements was one thing i wanted to write about, and now that even seniors have left the college..i guess its time.Anyways i wont write much about salary mean median and all that stuff..for that refer www.nmims.edu smart huh :P.Well wanted to avoid any controversy you see.

Placement is a big circus, and within this chaos there is amazing co-ordination.The IT team, food and beverage committee, you name it and you have a committee for it..Right from the Parking committee to company co-ordinators everything planned to perfection..so that none of the seniors miss out on their interviews. Hats off to the volunteers for their splendid work that they have done right from 5 am in morning to 12pm at night :) and coming back again the nest day early morning :).Lets hope we have an equally enthusiastic junior batch that will co-ordinate our placements next year.

Well for seniors it has been a tuff ride. Not getting shortlisted in your dream companies, your friends getting placed before you while you keep getting rejected in interviews. It needs a tuff chap to withstand all the emotional turmoil and stay cool. Too much rigor you see :P. While managing the placements handling seniors was another tough task, cant blame them for there occassional scoldings, i understand that it was all because of the tension...One could actually see the tension while the last few seniors were getting placed.Seniors breaking down and their friends trying to pep up their mood for the next interview.

I must thank the seniors too who on day 2 came to help out the junior volunteers, that really made the task easy.Wish all the seniors best of luck for future.

NMIMS flavour

in

well friends all this while i have been talking about b-schools in general, let me give you the NMIMS flavor.

Well Bumps was one thing i have already discussed, but having exams exactly during the holiday week from christmas to new year this was a first of its kind experience.I have never ever in my entire academic career given exams on a new years eve.

All friends have now taken a leave of a week and gone to stay with their family for a while.I am staying back because there is one important job of handling the placements of our seniors.I will write more about that in the coming posts.

Tomorrow i am going to do some go-karting..should be fun

chalo then

exams in b-schools

in

well for most part of mba first year stint (by now its already third trimester..you dont realise when exams start and when they get over)...the entire strategy depends on doing better than what others are doing. Its a tuff thing to do,when you are making a presentation yu want yur group members to score less than you , so that you get better grades. You just wish that somebody fails so that everyone gets a better CGPA

This relative grading is kind of wierd but thats how life is at B-school.In order to create competition amongst students,...people actually stop trusting. You can't even trust friends here,if you dont then they are not friends anyways right, thats the biggest disadvantage i must say.People can to any length to make sure one doesn't get ahead of the other, people are ready to pull down others for their own personal gain.

But thats life and since we are the future managers we need to live with it,thats how competition is in the corporate world right

Attachment and detachment

in

What drives people to commit to someone?
What makes people to cheat?
What makes people who are cheated , to make a new commitment with the cheater?

I have not found the answers to these questions, because so far i have been living in an idealistic world, where i considered that a commitment once made should not be broken.

Repeated betrayls have forced me to now beleive that appropriate strategy to deal with such cases is to ,"Not attach with anyone, stay detached. It is a good safeguard against the pain".

There is a flipside to it too, "Whats life without taking some risk,...If there is no risk there is no excitement".So if you want to have a piece of some action, stay put, dont back out. Slowly you will learn from the cheater, all the moves and you will be safe.

So crux lies in experiencing detachment, and moving back to a "Detached attachment" where yu stop feeling the pain of detachment.

A very confusing topic,i am glad i tried

The theory of bumps

in

The USP of my institute is i guess giving BUMPS in the quad(quadrangle area),so let me make an attempt to explain this theory of bumps in brief:

1) BUMPS are given on different occasions,....when its time to celebrate...and also when there is nothing else to do...

-its your b'day,you get bumps
-its not your b'day you get bumps
-you got summer placements...time for bumps
-you got extra large piece of cake,.....bumps
-you did not get placed,...bumps
-its your roommates bday,...bumps
-there is in no other bakra left...bumps (well i never thought that by the time i come back to finish this post i myself would be getting bumps ....)

2) Boys feel that girls never get bumps,....but i would like to assure them that they do...though in close confines of hostel rooms :p (and today even this rule was broken for a change by A-div guys :P)

3) A very interesting thing to note is the psyche of people who give bumps...they are supposed to be friends ....but they turn out to be worse than enemies at times :P...because they are the ones who conspire :)

4) Final ....People who give bumps give a hug (I don't understand the significance of this,I guess people want to make sure that the poor chap who got the bumps will have some mercy when its their turn to hit)....
And the poor chap gets a roasted a$#@ ..... :)...Bumps actually end up setting the a#$% on fire ....you feel like running away from the scene as fast as you can...but all you can do is just rub it gently while giving a smile :P....

well i can write many stories on this topic,...the other day we had a guest lecture by DC and before the guest arrived i guess 4 people got bumps inside the auditorium :)...

enough of this...I am yet to recover from the bumps i got last night :P

Dhongi Baba

in

Theres this aged professor in my college, my group was supposed to present today,we made a decent presentation, and got random marks for it. Theres this saying "You get what you deserve" and so i had to be satisfied wid my performance. This dhongi baba is all about performing on stage with some set dialogues that he has rehearsed over his entire career, a very respected man that he is,all i expect from this chap is some justified reasoning to his marking style.
Went to see "The departed" awesome movie with the twists in the end :).
Had two tests and a presentation today,we as in our goup decided once again to improve on the presentations...i think i am improving at presentation skills...lets hope i continue doing that...

Topic for todays presentation"Ban on dance bars:a call for greater sensitivity"

Being positive

in

Its been a while since i wrote my last post,so here it goes.I had my summers process, that's one of the stages that a b-school grad needs to go through.I was selected for the interview process of bnp-paribas.They asked for people who were interested in finance profile, but suddenly for no particular reason they wanted people to market financial products, which meant that they wanted to force us to take up what we did not want.Anyways that is not the issue, the point is :) i once again could not make it.

It has become a routine now
I apply
People wish me
I don't get through the interview process
People start telling me there is something better in store for you, :) and i don't have any choice but to agree.Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh its damn tuff to keep hoping you know.My friend V keeps telling me dude since you have work experience you will have a hard time getting placed for summers, but companies will run after you during final placements.

Weird logic but that is how it works in a b-school.
Have two presentations tomorrow, i mean today its already 2 am :P.One thing that b-school teaches you is making presentations in a jiffy :).We are so used to it now that we can speak at lengths on topics we have absolutely no clue.

God help the companies who come to pick us for placements :D

Movie review

in

My group of Mr I,Mr A,Mr H,me,Ms P and Ms S are supposed to do a movie review for our "groups and team effectiveness" subject. We decided on "reservoir dogs" first and then i was the first one from the group to go through the movie. The movie was supposedly a good movie of its time, and a remake was also made in hindi:"Kaante".I did not find the movie as good to be reviewed, and so we decided to do it on:"Remember the Titans".

Amazing movie i must say,and all the members loved watching it,an exemplary movie for depicting team ethics and how leadership works.

Got to work on review now,Ms S is already not feeling well, lets hope she gets fine for working as we need valuable inputs from her as far as theory is concerned.

Love yourself

in

Went to see the sequel of Dhoom, its an ok movie.Hrithik roshan was good, others were just average,....thanks to my friends who got the tickets for me.
On the research paper front ...well we managed to not write it and hence cancelled the idea at the last moment.Don't know if we will ever be able to write one like this.

Had an interesting discussion with one of our senior on friday,he inspired us to read a lot.I plan to do so,lets see how much is possible.
People around are still having problems with their mates,...just one advice to em

"Love yourself before anyone else"

Its a simple statement but solves lots of complications for you.It has done for many people, and will help many more too.

day 3 paragana

in

day three of the festival was great end to a nice beginning of the annual event of my college,...there are few things that i would like to contribute and improve next year let us see how much i can do.

Day started with a nice breakfast for all invitees,..and then started the marathon session of speakers.I was expecting for a good presentation from Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, but he was hard pressed for time and had to leave. We clicked some snaps during lunch, had a nice lunch i loved methi paneer.dont know about friends though.Deserts is what i like and gulabjamuns were really good.Enough of food, generally people tend to sleep after lunch in seminars. The speaker just after the lunch however was a man who ensured that we did not doze off,he was Javed ahmad,DIG Mumbai.Amazing speaker i must say,the debate on third bottomline ethics was really good.

Came back home after having missed the bus, with 'I'.Why we missed the bus well we were busy clicking snaps in the hotel lobby, and we go some really nice snaps i must say.

Finally festival is over, and we are back to working on our assignments.

paragana-day2

in

well today was the second day of our college festival.I didn't enjoy the festival that much...we hardly have any event in the festival...other colleges have lots of events...dearth of sponsors..no IT company sponsoring our events....hardly had any work to do...but still i had to be there....i just hate such kind of work...catch ya later...by the way today around 2 lac students sat to give CAT...hope my friends in hyderabad do well.

did not win but no probs

in

well i was waiting for quiz result..and my team missed out by just two points...no probs...just need to keep doing more quizzes.I have found that the more quizzes you do the more you learn. So to improve keep participating.

Could not make it to the Finnomenon team, no problem again :D
Indian cricket team has reached South africa, hope they do well this time:P
